Car Break in.
My car was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning, when I finished work on Thursday afternoon I went to help my son finish a job he was working on and do a bit of PAT testing in the same flat, when finished loaded all the tools and testers into car and drove home, arrived home 11-00pm was too knackered to unload car so locked it to do in morning,
Some dopey scroat(s) have broken into the car got into the boot moved all the tools and testers worth a couple of grand and knicked company laptop worth £100 if your lucky, digital camera worth £100 new and two brief cases full of worthless papers.
Police reckon I was number 30 locally this week to come out and find car broken into, apparently thieves have a key signal reader, that they can then duplicate the signal, and open your car without setting off the alarm or doing any damage.
I know I am dopey for leaving gear in car but was surprised to see tools and testers left.
Advise from police don't operate your remote control unless you are standing right beside your car, as this makes it almost impossible for them to copy signal.

Re: Car Break in.
Even stood beside your own car the signal will radiate a good distance so anyone within (say) 100ft will be able to pick it up.
The key fobs are 'supposed' to have a 'rolling code' that changes with every keypress.

Re: Car Break in.
How would that work Dave, if you have several keys on the go with different drivers.

Re: Car Break in.
I'm sorry to hear that Blakey. This scam is news to me - thanks for posting. I thought improvements in vehicle security was so good that thieves were being forced to house-break in order to get their hands on the key before robbing or stealing it. Or does this method only allow access to the car but not the ability to get it started?

Re: Car Break in.
It only unlocks the doors, they would still need the ignition key to start it unless they hot wired it, which could easily be done as they have de-activated the alarm with the code from their 'grabber'.southwood3 wrote:Or does this method only allow access to the car but not the ability to get it started?

Re: Car Break in.
Only had this one two days, key less system, with push button start providing you have the remote fob in the car.

Re: Car Break in.
Old mate of mine caught two blokes breaking into his car. he battered feck out of one of them with his rather larger Maglight.
He got chucked out of the police for it though.
