LONG worktop edging fpr breakfast bars ?

Post by johnch »

Does anyone know where I can get metal worktop edging that is long enough to cap the end of a breakfast bar size worktop (~75 cm deep in my case) - the only ones that I can find in Screwfix (eg link below) etc are 62cm long - ie long enough to cap the end of a normal worktop, but not the deper breakfast bar. I know you can get strips of coloured edging to match the breakfast bar surface, but I don't fancy that option because I'm not happy I can cut the worktop well enough for it to look OK ...

Tim might be able to verify this but your problem is the most common thing you hear about when somebody does their own worktops.
unfortunately a one off job doesn't warrant buying a jig and router.
however, i did buy them both about 5 years ago. it has saved me no end of hassle and i have fitted 100's of kitchens and worktops.
i tend to charge about £30 a joint but the other day i bumped into an old m8 of mine that is a joiner, he basically told me all he does is fit worktops now: -

£150 a joint!!!!!

People forget how fast you did a job - but they remember how well you did it.

I no longer skinny dip, i chunky dunk these day's.

The OP's not wanting a joint  he's looking for a metal facing for an unfinished end of a 750mm worktop that he's made into a breakfast bar.

Allan's right - I'm not looking to join two worktops - I've done that and it looks fine - this is capping the end of a wider than normal (ie breakfast bar) worktop ...
Cheers

Is that the only fix Tim?

Are the edges not available in other sizes?

If it's the only way, would you mitre the joint?

the problem is that john has posted a link for a corner joint when he has asked for a end cap (so lets not talk about mitres anymore)

i have never seen one bigger than 630mm

two cut with a nice square joint would look ok

but then I dont like these type of thing so personally I would fit the edging strip that came with the bar and then trim it with a laminate trimming bit in the router to fit
