Gnatwest persuaded the G/F to open a gold account. A few days later I happened to look in the Daily Mail at the money pages and there was an article all about Natwest offering and persuading customers to sign up for the Gold, Platinum and Silver?? Accounts when these were totally unsuitable for customers banking needs.
G/F is on Disability Living Allowance etc so the gold account was really unsuitable for her. She went into the bank and asked to see someone about it. They said, as the account had been opened (not used though) they would have to charge one months bank charges, until she showed them the Daily Mail article. "Ahh madam, we can see this account wouldn't suit you, so we'll close it now without charge."

Robbing barstewards.

I was informed yesterday that my bank statement has gone to my old address, despite me going into the bank personally to change address before the 3rd September. The paying in envelopes have not materialised either ::b

I think it would be best to bite the bullet and close my two accounts with them (which I never even opened in the first place)

My grandparents opened an account with Abbey National for me when I was first born and handed it over to me at 18. After going on a massive bender for a few weeks on the money (as you do at 18!) I just left the account open because it was handy for cheques - the account I had only took 3 working days to clear. In the last 7-8 years I havent used the account apart from notifying them of change of address. About 18 months ago I went in there (now Santander) to pay in a cheque and the cashier said the account was closed. I asked them why and she told me they had changed my account from one that takes 3 working days to 7 working days to clear a cheque and last time I used it I withdrew the money it was before the 7th working day and I was charged for going into an unauthorised overdraft. She then said once the cheque cleared it covered what I withdrew but the unauthorised overdraft charge then took me into, you guessed, an unauthorised overdraft for which they charged me interest for each month until it reached a point where they closed the account. I told her I was never asked or told about the change of account so its not my fault. I was told to phone customer services. Thats when I get to the security questions:
CS - "Where was the account opened?"
Me - "I don't know - my grandparents opened it for me"
CS - "When was the account opened?"
Me - "Either late 1974 or early 1975"
CS - "I need the exact date"
Me - "I don't know the exact date - my grandparents opened it for me"
CS - "You have failed the security questions, I cannot discuss this further. Goodbye"

I have written to them but havent heard anything back. I wonder how much the interest is over 7 years. It wouldnt surprise me if they try debt collection agency ::b
