Kitchen floor tiles: making good the grout

Hi All, hope you're well.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that I am not the worlds best DIYer so please forgive me if I say something silly

In short I tiled my kitchen floor about 6 months ago. I grouted and holding my hands up I made a poor job of it. I used 7mm spacers and I put too much grout in and although it looks ''ok-ish'' I now have the time to remedy.

There's grout obviously in the gaps but some I have covered the edge of the tile. Also I didn't put any sealant stuff on the grout so it has got filthy (beige to almost black )

To sort this out I was thinking of getting the mouse sander out with coarse paper. Sand the grout lines including the edges I've gone over to remove the grout. Then presumably Topps sell some sort of sealant so dirt and grime won't stick to the grout?

Any info you can give me would be much appreciated.

i wouldn't use sandpaper. there are proper grout scraping tools for the job and they arn't expensive to buy. get the one with the diamond blade, the rake is useless.

depending on what type of tile you have will depend on how you try to remove the grout from the edges of them. there are also grout removing solutions you can buy.

for sealants look for HG sealant

i attempted a ''test area'' with a flat head screw driver. that worked but would take a while i imagine.

is there any drill attachmednts that would do the same thing? i am lazy!

sorry you need to do it by hand or risk damaging your tiles

Use LTP grout sealant comes in 600ml spray cans, easier than HG dropper method ( madness!! ) http://ltp-online.co.uk/images/p_grout_ ... erosol.jpg usually covers approx 20 m2, with a 7mm spacer say 12-15 sq.metres, hope it helps

well finally finished the ''chissling''

i got half way round and was so shattered i pulled out the coarse sand paper.workked an absolute treat!!!!! and took so much less time.

now ive just got to apply the grout protector......... £18 a bottle!!
