Hello Forum Members,
I have to replace a shower tray. My question:
Is there a method of just removing and replacing the tray without removing the shower enclosure? I am worried the enclosure's weight will not be carried/held by the wall screws and could come crashing down, bringing the tiles along with it?
Anyone with experience, please help.
Thanks,
Tango

Re: Replacing Shower Tray
Smash the old tray out, that will do it.
Not a route I would go, but hey ho. I always take the enclosure out, set aside and then refit after putting in the new tray.
Is this for a client.....are you charging?

Re: Replacing Shower Tray
yes royaloak, it is for a client and i am charging.
trouble is, the property is rented and landlord (as a majority of them do) dont want to part with money. wants cheapest option. i have explained enclosure will have to come off but he claims it can be done without enclosure coming off?
I do a lot of work for him, so might just grit my teeth and do it proper.
thanks for the info.

Re: Replacing Shower Tray
Landlord.........translate to English........Business!
Do it properly and charge accordingly, they are running a business and so if you charge normal domestic rate they already have a discounted job.
Without seeing it, I could be wrong. It might come out without taking the enclosure out. I certainly wouldn't risk it. You can bet your behind that if it breaks it will be you installing a new one at your own cost and not him paying for it.
You haven't got a clue if it is screwed. What is the chances that another tradesmen has done cheap work for him, just because he is a landlord, and has just used silicone behind it?!

Re: Replacing Shower Tray
very good point. I tried encouraging him to change the shower cubicle as well since i intended to remove before replacing tray, but he said he has no intention of replacing cubicle? It looks horrible, but he claims it has only been there 5 years?
I will remove cubicle and charge accordingly.
thanks
