Google+
Is Google+ a replacement for Facebook? If so, has anyone here tried it, liked it, or otherwise. I'm on Facebook, and have had an invite to join up with Google+.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Re: Google+
I put the Google +1 button on the homepage as a test.
It got a few +1's but Google classes the homepage and the /index.htm page as two different pages (although it is the same page)
The /index.htm page had 148 ish +1's a few weeks back, now it has dropped to 48
If it keeps dropping I think I'll just remove it and not bother putting it on any other pages

Re: Google+
I can tell you this.
Google Plus is a self evaluation tool for Google, in essence you click on the +1 on any sites you like and it stores that details in your google account allowing you to return to your favourite sites whenever you want from your Google account.
Google then counts up the number +1 clicks that a site has got and rates it for positioning purposes in the search engine. For instance the more +1's a site has then theoretically the more popular it is and therefore the more important.
If you need to market your website then it is a useful addition!

Re: Google+
It's just another place to waste more time, but it DOES raise an interesting question - one which I hope to answer in the image below.
Where SHOULD you post your status update?

I don't think I'll bother with it then, my websites are only for information not profit.

Re: Google+
I did set up a Google+ account a few weeks ago and apart from the day I set it up I havent gone back on it. There is nobody I know who is on it so its pretty pointless to me

Re: Google+
Google seems to have fixed the issue with the +1 on the main index page of the site and it now appears the same regardless if you look at
http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/
or
http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/index.htm
Whether or not I'll be adding the +1 code to any other pages is another matter

Re: Google+
I use google+. I don't go on it much though as it seems to be quite slow at taking off (Not that many on it, not that I know anyway). I like it because its everything in one site. Search engine, Gmail, document, social

Re: Google+
If possible then sort out the two pages (homepage and index.htm) into your preferred page, think it can create duplicate content issues on search engines etc. We've not long sorted the same problem ourselves using a 301 redirect (sound like I know what I'm talking about here! lol).ultimatehandyman wrote: It got a few +1's but Google classes the homepage and the /index.htm page as two different pages (although it is the same page)
