Yes, it's only connected via USB2 Rich, it has nearly finished now and is at 97%
The SSD just arrived this morning , so I think I'll have a play with it first and perhaps fit that into the alienware first for a speed comparison. Then wipe it and copy the files from my main computer and put it in there! I'll be having some real fun this weekend

Re: Microsoft Excel chinese problem
Sounds good! Your SSD supports 6Gb/s SATA, so if you've got a machine that supports that it will be super fast. Your drive will easily saturate a 3Gb/s connection.

Can't wait
Only problem is that backup is now only on 98%
Might be next weekend when I do the upgrade

Sorted it yet Chez...I'm wanting to know if you've had to tie your computer to the desk to stop it flying!

Re: Microsoft Excel chinese problem
I have just finished installing the SSD.
Yesterday I put it in the Alienware laptop and to be honest it did not improve the performance as the laptop is low spec compared to my desktop PC, even though the Alienware has a core I7 processor and 8GB of memory.
It took much longer than expected as it is hard work when you are at home as there is always something else to do!
Anyway I got cracking on it at about 10am today and cloned the hard drive to the SSD which took 3.5 hours.
The cloning software that came with the data transfer kit was supposed to be run outside of windows, but I tried this on the laptop and desktop and it would not work on either so I ended up running it from windows (which the software manufacturers say you can do). At one point today when I booted from the data transfer CD the computer locked up and when I restarted it I got a message saying there was no operating system on the PC so not a good start.
Once the hard drive had finished cloning it took just a few minutes as I have kept the original 2 hard drives in Raid 0 configuration for storage. I just changed the primary boot device in the BIOS and away it went.
I have tried to speed test the PC by encoding a small 5 minute HD clip, but I can't remember if it was much faster or not as it was about 3 mins 20 seconds to encode it. The same file took about 23 mins on the laptop!
The Windows experience index has gone up from 5.9 to 7.2 so the hard drives (even though they were raid 0) were the bottle neck.
I am not sure if it is my imagination but it seems faster just surfing the internet as the pages load like lightening

No, I forgot about that!
If I have any problems I will do one
The good thing is that at the minute I can go in the bios and boot from the other hard drives if necessary. I might actually keep it like this and just add folders to those drives for storage

Re: Microsoft Excel chinese problem
Hmm, i'd be expecting more of a 'WOW' reaction....something don't seem right....this is yours compared to mine:
You machine is set up for AHCI in the BIOs and not on compatability mode or something?
Don't change it though, as your machine won't boot up after without running a 'fix' before hand (it's a different IDE controller driver and will cause your machine to blue screen without it!)

Here are the results of the HDD's in Raid 0
Perhaps cloning was a bad idea and I should of gone for a fresh install
