I have just finished installing the SSD.
Yesterday I put it in the Alienware laptop and to be honest it did not improve the performance as the laptop is low spec compared to my desktop PC, even though the Alienware has a core I7 processor and 8GB of memory.
It took much longer than expected as it is hard work when you are at home as there is always something else to do!
Anyway I got cracking on it at about 10am today and cloned the hard drive to the SSD which took 3.5 hours.
The cloning software that came with the data transfer kit was supposed to be run outside of windows, but I tried this on the laptop and desktop and it would not work on either so I ended up running it from windows (which the software manufacturers say you can do). At one point today when I booted from the data transfer CD the computer locked up and when I restarted it I got a message saying there was no operating system on the PC so not a good start.
Once the hard drive had finished cloning it took just a few minutes as I have kept the original 2 hard drives in Raid 0 configuration for storage. I just changed the primary boot device in the BIOS and away it went.
I have tried to speed test the PC by encoding a small 5 minute HD clip, but I can't remember if it was much faster or not as it was about 3 mins 20 seconds to encode it. The same file took about 23 mins on the laptop!
The Windows experience index has gone up from 5.9 to 7.2 so the hard drives (even though they were raid 0) were the bottle neck.
I am not sure if it is my imagination but it seems faster just surfing the internet as the pages load like lightening
