Tube problem

Hi,
I have a 5ft slimline flourescent tube in my shed that is switched on by a pull cord. It has stopped working?!?!
I have changed the tube and starter but still no good? :scratch: :scratch: :scratch: :scratch: :scratch: :scratch:

If you can check that it is getting power to the light, it is probably best to replace the whole unit as it will probably work out cheaper than replacing the components inside.

Took the unit off and it looks like a transformer? or something similar has melted??? changed it for a bulb / ceiling rose and it worked fine.

I know the part that you describe, but I don't know what it is called.

Not sure if you can buy a replacement one :?

The component that has probably melted is either a capacitor or a ballast, both easily obtainable, but you will probably find as with car spares the original parts cost more than buying a complete new car , buy a whole new fitting if you want one again .

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

If it's just for the shed, try asking on "freecycle" for a flourescent light.
I see them advertised for free all the time. :wink:
