GIMP 2.6 QUESTIONS.

Post by pistonbroke1957 »

Evening all
Have recently downloaded GIMP 2.6 and have a couple of questions.
When pasting a selection from the clipboard into a picture,is it possible to match
the selection to the background colour ? i.e changing a face.
I've used all the 'colour tools' i can find but can't get it as i want it
Also,is it possible to have more than one item at a time on the 'clipboard' ?
Cheers

Clipboard is the standard Windows clipboard - one in, one out!

You could always select and copy what you want and paste it as a brush - then you can go back to it whenever you need it (chose the paintbrush and it's in your pallet).

Are you trying to get a face from a different picture into something else?

What I normally do, when I'm doing this (usually friends faces onto gay pictures) is open the image with your the face you want - select and copy. Open the NEW picture you want to put it into and paste as a new layer.

Overlay onto the picture and size/rotate into the correct place. You can use the eraser at this point on this one layer to better make the picture fit/remove any excess from the old picture that doesn't go (usually around the neck/shirts, etc).

Once it's in place I normally then use the colour balance/colourize and levels to match. There are other ways of picking up the previous layer pallet, but it's hard work - you need to change many times to get the various shades - using the tools above, you can just affect the face layer.

Once done, flatten the image and save - if you want to change it later, save as a gimp picture with layers in tact and export the image to jpeg for use - then you can go back again if not happy!

This is how I got here:

and this

edited as above and colours removed (although they did actually match! lol)

There are lots of talented people here too....perhaps if it's not too private, you could put them both up for someone to do?

Thanks for the reply BG especially for putting down in easily understandable terms.
Too many forums nowadays use 'computer-speak' and abbreviations.
Good to know there are still people who take the time to answer questions
in English. !
Thanks again

BG. Have tried what you suggested and seems to work just fine.
One more question.
When i save the altered picture by 'exporting' it to a jpeg image,
is the original unaltered image also saved to another location ?
If no,guess i should make a copy of the original first
Cheers

I always rename the new image, which leaves the original image intact if you don't save any changes made to it.

If you click save and enter a name, it should default to a gimp image (XCF). If you then choose 'save as copy' then it WON'T overwrite the origional.

I can't see 'export' ... but that might be 'cos I've had 7 pints with my "meal". do what Wrinx says...it makes more sense.
