Post by Cannyfixit »

I've decided to try and get into the 21st century with my phone, last year i got a new Motorola defy android phone and reading on the net it is a all singing and dancing phone capable of many things so I want to start using the internet on my phone
I have configured it to access the internet and have been on the Android market looking for a securty app to protect my phone so what security app would you recommend then,I have Antivirus Free ready to download is this a good one or is there anything better out there

I have also used this AVG before, there doesn't seem to be much out there to be honest. Got the link here for you anwyay:

Surprising really I thought there'd be a lot more but this seems to do the trick anyway!

Cheers,
Garry.

I'm using the free version of Avast too on my Galaxy S2, and on both laptops plus the desktop PC.

Seems to work fine without being too much of a resource hog.

I really thought a renewal was just that renewing what i had agreed to in the first place or am i wrong
Now i am paying £35 pm for 300 minutes a 100 texts my and contact doesnt run out until feb 2013 ::b ::b ::b

Orange are a loads of crooks, I cancelled my contract with them, and they still took money from my account direct debit. when I cancelled the direct debit they continued to bill me, even though the phone no longer worked.

I get 500 texts, 100mins, 500mb, and 3000 Virgin to Virgin £10.99 month

300 minutes, 300 texts, 250mb, plus free Galaxy S2 for £21 a month on T-Mobile (who are now owned by the same company as Orange!) via Tesco.

I'd definitely be threatening Orange with Trading Standards and the Ombudsman for mis-selling if they changed your contract terms without explictly telling you when you clearly just wanted to renew it. If you create enough of a stink they'll probably let you out of the contract - and then you can go to someone worth doing business with.

Orange didn't want to let me out of my contract when it finished. They tried to tell me that I had to give them another 30 days notice in writing despite the fixed term contract having a definite end date. Took a formal complaint, threats of OFCOM and Trading Standards, and me pointing out that it would cost them far more to deal with the investigations than they were ever going to get out of me, but they backed down in the end.

Having always been happy with T-Mobile, I only ever went with Orange last time because a lying weasel of a salesman in the Orange shop told me that they were going to be fully amalgamated with T-Mobile (they aren't!) and that it wouldn't make any difference.

Ah.

Apparently it's ok to name Orange, Virgin, Tesco, Motorola and HTC, but not a mobile phone company starting with "T"!

Hi CannyFixIt

This post seems to have gotten a little of track, with opinions on service providers.
As for an anti virus / security app's on an android phone
for me I use comodo on my Samsung galaxy S2 and all my home pc's and laptops
like a lot of the others its free for personal use.
For the PC there are loads of configurations to tweak the system (some not for the newbie)
but on the android platform is quite easy to use.
Available at https://m.comodo.com/

you may by now have a solution in place but its worth a look

Cheers

No real use for AV on a linux based phone OS, just bloats it out! I rooted, then removed all bloatware and the phone is fast and stays fast this way.
