To score or not.

Post by Zork »

Hello.
I have plasterboarded the walls around the bath, ( why is it they are level when you put them up, but when you check them later they are not so level!), and am almost ready to tile. Do I need to score the board?

I tiled the bathroom a few years back and seemed to use a lot of adhesive, because I was putting it on the wall and the tile as instructed. Do I put the same amount on both? The tiles are 361 x 276 ceramic.

Thanks for any replies.

Depends on the tile but with that size you will need a cement based adhesive (comes in a bag and not pre-mixed in a tub). Doubtful those tiles will need to be back buttered.

No need to score the walls, but 99% of cement based adhesives require plasterboard to be primed first. Primed with a primer that suits the adhesive. NOT PVA.

I was just looking at the Keraflex instructions. Says shouldn't use over 5mm thickness. Guess that's OK as it's for heavy tiles.

5mm bed, which if used correctly a 10mm notched trowel would produce a 5mm solid bed.

If you need to go thicker in places then go for Keraflex Maxi

I forgot about the angle. Is it ok to put 2 - 3mm on the wall and tile? Just a bit paranoid about getting 100% coverage.
