You're right with Lidl get there on the day, though I think it takes them a couple of hours to get the new stuff out on to the floor??? I should have guessed that they would sell out quickly - it's the first time they've had them. Anyhow no rush, I'll get one next time around, most stuff that sells well is on a 6 month approx cycle.

i would also ask the staff as they may not have put any on the sales floor or only the first half if short off room
or keeping them to sell at the carboot

i have had the staff say "sold out" when i have been at the checkout 3 mins after opening on advertised day
i have also when i asked been told that the £20 freeveiw boxes are in safe keeping in the staff room :wtf:

I managed to get one, but I went on the first day.

They only had 3 on display and I bought 2 of them (one for a mate)

I don't normally go shopping but if I am passing I'll pop in and see if they have any more

Actually I might get the Mac-Allister one as well and compare the two
I got a parkside, it seems a well built tool, it feels very solid, my only criticism is that the arbour that the blade mounts onto only has 4 locating pins to engage with the blade, this arbour (for the want of a better name for it) is part of the shaft that comes from the machine, (it doesn't come off the shaft) so if the 4 blade locating pins get worn or damaged the tool would be useless.

I haven't got a Bosch to compare the parkside with but from looking at pictures of the Bosch I can see that the arbour on that has lots of blade locating pins, I can't make out if the arbour is part of the shaft or just fitted onto the shaft so that it could be replaced if it gets damaged or becomes worn, can any one that has a Bosch let us know?

thanks for the review much appreciated :thumbright:

i would think the pins will be fine because its only oscillating about 3 to 5mm and if it finds any great resistance the body vibrates until you reposition the cutter :dunno:

Well I've used the tool a few times now and what a handy tool it is, however my worries about the blade locating pins seem to have been correct, whilst changing the blade today I noticed that one of the pins is missing and the remaining 3 are showing a lot of wear.
There is a hole where the missing pin should be so the pins must be a press fit. The blade has come loose a few times while I have been using the tool, I think this must be what has caused the damage to the pins.

As I mentioned in my other post the blade mount doesn't come off the shaft, it would be a lot better design if it did as it could then be replaced when worn or damaged.

The tool has a 3 year warranty so I should be ok if I want to return it, but as it's such a handy tool I'll have to replace it.

Cheers.

Yeah the blade is on nice & tight with nothing in between.

When using the tool the blade has come loose the odd time despite the Allen bolt being tight, when this happens it takes a second or two to realise that it has come loose, I suspect this is when the damage to the pins has happened.
With the blade loose the pins will be hitting against the locating holes in the blade causing the damage.

I think the blade mount on these machines are their Achilles Heel, they should be replaceable and not part of the shaft, maybe I could devise a way to attach an adaptor like in the picture below to the blade mount base then this could be renewed if it gets worn.

Cheers.

it may help but i doubt it unless you tighten the screw fully
i am sure you realize just how tight it needs to be now :thumbright:

:idea1:
If the other 3 pins sheer off or fall out an adaptor could be spot welded in place around the edge, then the blade fitted as normal, if the adaptor pins became damaged the welds could be ground off and another adapter fitted, so all is not lost if I don't want to return the tool under warranty.

Maybe try making a nylon washer about a millimeter thick to stop it getting wriggled out? Same principle as a lock nut. Maybe even plumbers tape would do the trick.

I imagine no other screw in the world gets so many loosening jolts a second.
