Disabled employees at Remploy to lose their jobs
This "caring" government has now stooped so low that they are withdrawing £380 million of government subsidy to Remploy which will effectively make around 1800 disabled unemployed.
Remploy was first set up after the second world war to provide meaningful employment for those disabled in the war.
Now all those Remploy disabled will be forced onto the dole! Disgraceful!
It is not about saving money as the government has no trouble "printing it" under QE. (£325 billion thus far!)
If they are prepared to screw the disabled they wil do anything!

£380 million to keep 1800 people employed works out at £ 200k each which would be poor value for money. I think the figures you have given are wrong.

Re: Disabled employees at Remploy to lose their jobs
Figures now out suggest that the subsidy per job is £25000 a year which is quite alot.
If a job is that expensive to create, I would rather just give them the cash and let them enjoy what they can of life.

I totally agree with the spirit of the company, but I wonder what is does for a persons self esteem to find out that they are costing more to employ than they earn. I know a couple of disabled people who would find that patronizing.

Gets them out of the house and gives them a sense of purpose...
the reason they are not seen to be productive is the administration of the scheme...which costs far more than the individuals wage.

Spot on Wino. Self esteem can't be bought at any price. No doubt Labour will kick off about the closures, but they have very short memories ,,,,, don't they?

Re: Disabled employees at Remploy to lose their jobs
Remploy have found far more disabled people proper jobs in real companies than they have ever employed in their own subsidised and loss making factories.
Surely in this day and age it should be more about integration into the real world than keeping people segregated in asylums.

Thats exactly right. I learnt a huge amount from a QS who is wheelchair bound when I started out. He is still a successful QS even though he rarely visits sites and seldom goes to the office. He works from his computer and I think it keeps him alive. Without a purpose he would struggle.Inky Pete wrote:Remploy have found far more disabled people proper jobs in real companies than they have ever employed in their own subsidised and loss making factories.

I applaud any efforts to break down the barriers which can unfiarly keep disadvantaged people out of the workplace.
