How much to fit 2 straight worktops?

How much should i expect to pay to replace 2 lenghs of worktop. i have purchased the new tops. they are just normal lam tops. the old tops need removing, the silicone removing from around the wall andthe sink and electric hob need removing and then refitted into new worktops and 2ends need edging and then reseal all over. the lenghs are approx 3m and 2m.

Without seeing the job I'd say around £400

depends if you are doing a masons mitre. if you are it puts £100 straight on the job.

removal you could prob do in a morning, the chap is going to have to be carefull as you are keeping the unnits so it will take longer,

cut the sizes to length wih a router, looking couple of hours, set up etc, and depending on how good you are, (up to about 1pm)

mitre if there is one (1 hour) with the dog bolts

fit another 30 min

cut sink and hob 1hr 30min for both (4pm)

clean up 1hour (if you want disposal that will prob be another £50+ depending on the guys)

1 days labour kitchen fitter £150
Labourer £70+
Mitre £100
Disposal £50

Total £370

as a rough guide.

may seem like alot but there is alot of responsability in cutting tops, get one thing wrong and its bye bye work top.

Even if you don't get it wrong if you swing your big heavy metal clamp in the edge of the work top then it costs you £170 and 2 hours while you feck of to IDS to get another (at your own cost).

Still that was last week and it happens to us all lol.

I may have bought one or 4 over the years lol. I forgot to round off the corners when cutting in for a sink, once.

You're obviously able to charge a lot more 'darn sarf' than we can up here. Typical mason's mitre here is £45 to £60

I'd charge at a day rate of £150 plus £50 for the mitre and £50 for disposal (and why, oh why is it that people always bitch about the cost of waste removal?), or about £250 all in. If I need to rebate the backs of the new worktops (replacing 30mm tops with 40mm ones but leaving the existing tiling) I would probably charge a bit more for the risks involved. Just like you I reckon it would probably a day's work, although I do these on my own - no labourer required for many of them. The problems I've found on jobs like this (fortunately at survey) have included illegal/dangerous wiring (which I won't touch), rotted water pipes (which required ripping out and replacing) and out of level units. All cause problems and will inevitably result in a higher quote to the end client

mate of mine had a kitchen fitted in the house he was doing up. (he hadnt realised i fit kitchens.) its only a small kitchen. iirc 5 base units. and 5 wall units. extractor hood. worktops and hole cut in for the sink. the bloke was going to charge £700 to fit it but my mate talked him into doing it for £480. its a U shaped layout so 2 masons mitres.

reakon that will be why he left all the plastic film on everything. gloss white doors etc. blue plastic film on all the door edges. pelmets etc. my mate moaned like a goodun when he was trying to peel it all off a couplea months after fitting.

still couldnt understand why he said i wont touch the sink. need a plumber to do it. he wouldnt have fitted it even at the original price.

one worktop that sticks to mind was a while back we had to have some tops sent from darn sarf as there wasnt any of the particular type in the north. got them all fitted. sink in etc. went home for the weekend. came in on the monday and the client was sayin oi paul... you know this stainless steel sink??? its gone rusty. turned out the astracast sink id fitted was faulty and had loadsa little rust specs all over the bottom of the bowl.

in the end they went for one of those sinks thats like plastic but not (the word has completely gone from my head haha) but the stainless sink required a rectangular cut out. the new sink needed rounded corners. and i ended up at the coustomers insistance glueing some small pieces in the back to fill the gaps. as he didnt want to have to wait for more worktops to be sent up. still i supose it was barely visible when it was all finally fitted.

Morning, did make me smile, stainless steel rarely rusts.

rust specs are generally waste metal particles that are stuck in the bottom and stick to the sink and rust, got caught with this one years ago,

inox cream is the job! takes all those nasty marks of rust away, see the link for confo...............
