Makita LXT202 White

A colleague pitched up on site last week with one of these awesome looking kits. I was always told the LXT202 was top notch although this special edition version really does look the part - although a bit pricey at £390! Is there anything out there similar but under £300?

Thanks - that seems to be the standard green/black one. Have just found what I'm after at £270! There is also a white radio available at an extra £63 but I'm not looking for that anyway. May just have struck gold (or white anyway).

That's not the same kit - the combi drill is the cheaper 2 speed plastic gearbox version, the LXT202 one has the 3 speed combi drill with metal gearbox.

Understand it's different although having had a look into it I've decided it's a bit like the washing machine analysis - 20 settings and only 3 that are ever used. I'm prepared to exchange the extra speed setting for the £60 cash difference!

It all depends on whether or not you drill masonry with a cordless impact. or get out your SDS drill. I have no real need for the BHP451 with the metal gearbox because I also stumped up for a BHR202 cordless SDS. That drills masonry much faster than a combi, but there is the added cost. On the other hand the BHP452 is a lot lighter and works well for timber drilling, countersinking, etc. Personally, I dislike the huge weight penalty there is with metal gearbox combi drills - possibly because I'm not (big enough to be) into eating cow pie!

Ether way, excellent bits of kit. Sure you'll be very happy with them!

DK202 kit arrived today and as suspected am very happy with it. Even got a free pair of Pyramex safety specs!

It might just be the coolest looking kit out there and a bargain to boot.

Perfect for fitting kitchens and other woodworking due to size and power but clearly something heavier duty needed for masonry. There looks like a good deal on that same mymatemark site for a BHR241RFE. Any views on that model?

I wouldn't get to hung up on mymatemark. Whenever I've looked at the offers on there they quote a ridiculous starting price to make it look like a bargain and then ship tiddly little 1.3 batteries with everything. Not much good to a tradesman

Don't know about the site, but I went for the BHR202 as my cordless SDS - almost identical to the BHR241 but the handle arrangement makes for a more compact drill. I posted a review here. I use mine when I'm not drilling for long periods or where ther is no mains power. Good for a few dozen holes, but even with 3Ah batteries you'd be forever swapping/charging batteries on jobs where you need to drill hundreds of hole in a day. Horses for courses.

Had a look at the deal here. Personally I wouldn't buy a complete set. Instead I'd just go for the drill body bare and maybe buy a third battery because you probably don't need a second charger. An example of the sort of price you could pay for a drill on eBay is this at £145. The BHR202 is similarly priced. Makita batterise can be had for £85 to £95, but if you are prepared to go for third party batteries I can recommend Tools Down at under £60 (I have a couple of these). What I did to carry my kit around was to buy a Makita carrying case - got the larger 6-tool LXT600 bag for under £40 - there is also a smaller 4-tool LXT400 bag which is a bit cheaper

I'm not getting hung up on any website - it's the product I'm interested in. As long as it's delivered quickly and is well packaged I'm focussed on the cost. By that I mean the price I'm paying not any headline discount - all sites market themselves in that way but clearly the bit that matters is what you pay and what you get!

I've also not seen the issue you mention with the batteries - the DK202 I got from mymatemark had 2 x 18v 3.0 a/h Li-Ion batteries - I've had other Makita cordless products in the past and this is more than enough for professional use
