Bathroom Project - Complete Refit (lots of Photo's)
Hi All,
Thought I would share my experience here seeing as I have used this site many times for its wealth of knowledge.
Owned my house for just over 2 years now, the bathroom has always bothered me and the Mrs, nothing really worked very well taps, shower etc so it was time to rip it out. I am certainly no expert when it comes to DIY and this is my first bathroom, but I have done plumbing at college in the past and grown up watching the old man rip apart every house I ever lived in
Firstly the before photos, a must with any project so you can remind yourself of why you started this project when things start going wrong
Water Damage behind the bath... the whole bathroom had MR plasterboard but obviously when this bathroom was fitted rather than replace the board on the bath walls they have just stuck 9mm plasterboard over the top, which was so wet it just fell off.
Blank Canvas, the house is timber frame (built in 1991)
This branch has to go under the floor for the new layout.
Possibly the worst job, i had to cut the soil stack below the level of the ceiling, Multimaster is your friend for this job.
The New Branch in place
Rad pipes moved into the wall cavity.
Electric shower, moved the plumbing up as the old shower was too low for my liking.
Floor back down and new boards almost finished, used Glasroc H tilebacker... good stuff but expensive @ £23 a m2, comes in nice 1200 x 900 sheets ideal for small bathrooms and a one man installation team.
Bath and Vanity in
Toilet and semi recessed basin installed... cutting the worktop is a bugger probably because i didn't want to cut to much, used the template but it was not big enough I found.
Tiling almost complete and ply down on the floor ready for the vinyl flooring. I tiled the feature wall but got a friend to help with the rest to speed things up.
Its virtually finished now just waiting for the floor to go down in the next few days - Time wise I took 1 week off work and spent another 3 weeks doing it after work and weekends. Cost wise around the £3000 mark including everything.

Amazing for your first attempt!! You should be proud. Tiling and setting out looks good too.
Only thing you might live to regret is the placement of the bath taps. I understand why you moved them over due to the shower screen that is to go up but by moving them so far over it means you can't rest your arms on the side when laying back in the bath.
But all said a nice tidy fit

Thanks guys - I did consider the tap placement, with the pre drilled tap holes on that bath they are the other end for exactly that reason no doubt - I thought access to the taps was more important than being able to rest your arms, plus me and Mrs shower more than we bath, but your dead right for bath lovers they are in the way for truely chilling out in the tub.
I would say to anyone attempting this for the first time, just take your time and plan things out - If it takes longer then so be it (I thought i would have it done in 2 weeks lol). The floor goes down today so will post some final pictures later.

Not sure the bath would be my choice though.
