Makita 18V combi drill...??

Post by Sid71 »

Hi

It's about time I bought myself a Li-ion combi hammer drill. I've had a Ni-Cad Makita for donkeys (the one with the red battery pack) but it's jiggered.

There's loads of 18V Makita's out there - just wondering if anyone could recommend one? My budget is £200 and I want 2 batteries ideally.

Cheers

I think at the budget you'll struggle. Bare drills can be had for £70, the batteries are generally £75 a pop and the charger is £35 = £255. You'll maybe find offers like this one a bit cheaper, but at £238 + £7 carraige (£245) it's not far away from the price I've quoted

I bought a Makita 18v Li-ion combi hammer drill. It struggles on the hammer option drilling concrete/brick and when drilling into a lintel. ::b
Had to resort to my trusty electric drill to help out.
It's still worth the money for general use though.

ive used pretty much all the Makita cordless tools with the 18v 3ah batteries and cant fault any of them, i think youd be best to up your budget get the drill, impact driver 2 battries and charger set and enjoy.

To be fair that "problem" isn't unique to the Makita. If you want to go drilling reinforced concrete then no impact drill, corded or cordless, is going to do all that well. If you want to make quick work of re-inforced concrete like a lintel then the only solution is to go SDS. They, however, don't make good general drills. Combi drills are, however, very good on soft to medium brick (not engineering brick), softer stone and blockwork - which are the materials making up the majority of modern houses (and a lot of commercial buildings)

I have this one, although I only had the one battery to begin with and then bought another later on. £232.92 including two batteries, vat, delivery and a very nice case :-)
