Petrol Station Paranoia
Every time I drive past a petrol station just now, I seem to automatically look at those electronic price boards they have and think, 'How much will it have gone up today?'.
It's getting to the stage that it seems to be more expensive every day, or is that just Grumpy Auld Bugger syndrome biting a bit harder than normal I wonder?

Re: Petrol Station Paranoia
I dont look at the price so much as I have a company fuel card but I do check how long the queue is just in case I have missed a news report that fuel is in short supply

I daren't look any more, got to fill up anyway, cost is immaterial (in that it will be pretty much the same everywhere). I do keep an eye on the price via: http://www.petrolprices.com set to my local area.
One day it will all be firewood.

Re: Petrol Station Paranoia
I put some petrol in last week at Sainsburys @ 7:50 in the morning. At work (around 10:00am) I was sent to Sainsburys Homebase to purchase some paint. I couldn't believe that Sainsburys had put the price of petrol up by 2p per litre in just over two hours. It's getting ridiculous nowadays and the price will rise even further in August when the fuel escalator kicks in again. Most of the cost of fuel, goes directly to the treasury (probably so they can throw it at some corrupt Eastern country , in the form of foreign aid)

Re: Petrol Station Paranoia
i reckon for every penny increase on the forecourt it becomes 3p by the time it gets to the supermarket shelves, when the 3p escalator kicks in in August it will add 10p to all your basics
the cost of fuel is 78% tax

Re: Petrol Station Paranoia
Wow, I had no idea that the cost of fuel was 78% tax, that's just mind blowing.
Does that mean if the tax was lowered for fuel prices, all other basics prices would fall a little too? Or would it just be an excuse to keep profiteering?

as in fuel is only part off the equation you have raw material wages infrastructure and transport costs
yes some will come through in raw materials and and others but the infrastructure and wages will not be directly effected
also with the highly competitive market people tend to go out off business before raising prices as that tends to be suicide

Bummer that Oban's a bit of a way....!
Mind, 3p cheaper than what, cos I bet your fuel's still more expensive than for us southerners.
