Fitting kitchen corner wall units

I'm due to fit a kitchen and I'm a bit stuck with the units that have been supplied.

I have fitted a few kitchens over the years, but all of them have had dedicated corner units. This kitchen has a 600 wall unit and a 300 wall unit placed together as shown in the drawing below.

In the plan that was drawn by the kitchen fitter it shows them placed as per my drawing below, but it is impossible to fit them like this as the doors will never open.

There is a filler piece that is approx 75mm wide, but it is roughly the same length as the external height of a kitchen unit, it also has some pre drilled holes that do not match up with the door hinges.

Any advice is welcome

you need to fit the filler. have you got a picture of it? most are fitted alll the same but a few are slightly different

it's supposed to be, i'm guessing it's 716mm tall right?

Not sure on the exact measurement as It's at the house, but it was a couple of mm shorter than the unit (so probably the same height as a door)

Can you not either:-

1) hinge the doors on their outside edges so theyopen and close to meet in the corner (although you'd have to be careful with the handle size and positioning so each door doesn't clash with the other doors handle)

or

2) hinge the two doors together with a 360 degree hinge between them and then hinge one side or the other to the cabinets - so they both open and then fold together.

I just can't imagine where it goes externally that will work

If I put the fillet like this it throws out the full run of units (as it is not shown on the drawings) and there is nowhere on the inside of the kitchen unit to hang the door.

If I put the fillit this way there is also nowhere to hang the door from and I don't think it gives enough clearance to open the other door:scratch:

The fillet looks like this, but the holes in it do not match the hinge positions on the doors -

Not sure, it shows them both opening from the joint on the plan.

One thing though if I put the door on the 600 unit the opposite way it will be almost impossible to get anything in the corner of the unit as the door will obstruct.

Hang on a minute, when you say fillet piece, is it in the same material as the unit or the same as the doors?

The only corner units I've ever seen have either had the doors hinged on the outer edges and adjusted to just miss eachother as they open and close - usually using hinges that allow the doors to open all the way back on themselves to make it easier to get stuff in and out of the corner, as you say. Or they've had the two doors hinged to eachother like this -

I sort of found a solution to the problem by adding the fillet to the 600 unit, then moving the 600 unit away from the wall where the 300 unit goes to enable the door to open unobstructed.

I then cut a piece of wood to fit on the inside of the 600 unit and drilled holes to attach the hinges to.

Now I can open both doors as it shows on the original plan.

I must admit that fitting kitchens is a real pain in the backside. A few weeks ago I fitted an Ikea Kitchen and it was made difficult because the plan was wrong on about 5 of the 7 pages.

This kitchen is even more difficult as they have drilled the hinge holes the incorrect diameter for the supplied screws, so they all need enlarging

The drawer unit is only predrilled for a door, not 4 drawers and so that will require drilling and also the drawer fronts are not predrilled, so fitting them to the drawers will be a pain as well

The wall units are 300mm deep

The base units have a dedicated corner kit that comprise of two pieces, one is about 100 wide and the other is about 50mm wide. The kit comes with brackets, it looks easy to sort the base units as there is a 200mm gap in the corner of the room, the difficult part was the wall units as I could not move them much or the extractor ducting and wiring would be in the incorrect place.

As it stands now I can fit the extractor to the wall one night next week, then I can fit the unit below for the hob and work backwards to the corner, it should be a piece of cake then as I have a mate lined up for fitting the worktops.

Another thing that has annoyed me about the kitchen is the wall end panels as they are 345mm deep, so I'll have to cut all 4 of them down
