Skip ramp

Post by jay81 »

Note to self, never use a scaffold board for a ramp into skip!!!

Loading skip up today at a job, got to top of the ramp and started to tip barrow and the scaffold board gave way and next thing i know i am laying on floor with the still full barrow on top of my leg. No one around so shuffled through garage to back garden to get phone and call for help as i could see bone!!!
Eventually getting to hospital i am told i have open fracture to shin!! Luckily only chipped but still fractured and can be seen through wound.

So a couple of tips for people:
1; dont use scaffold board for ramp
2; always have mobile phone phone in pocket if working alone
Cheers

Nice one...

If I'd had a mobile in my pocket I'd probably have landed on it, smashing it to pieces knowing my luck...

I'm always doing that, did it just snap in the middle or slip off the edge?

Very painful and to top it off when my wife rang for an ambulance they rang back 30 minutes later and said they wont send an ambulance, they would send an on call doctor within 2 hrs. So managed to get to the car and get driven there.

The board slipped of the edge. No more now i have found out you can hire a skip ramp for £25 per week.
Cheers

no use half an extension ladder with the hooks on , put the hooks over the edge of a skip board on top. it just so happens one of my ladders is the same length as a scaffold board
