Concealed door closers

Post by Inky Pete »

Does anyone know how to take the spring tension off a concealed door closer?

I've got a couple of doors which need taking off to have a bit trimmed off the bottom, but they're fitted with these:-

If I just unscrew them from the door frame they'll spring shut and I'll never get them fitted again. What's the trick with them?

I'm going to post the same question on TT

Cheers

Poke a screwdriver through the chain near to the door. This will stop the chain from pulling back in to the door. Then you can unscrew the plate holding the chain to the frame. You can then remove the door and trim it. Then rehang the door, fix the plate to the frame, and remove the screwdriver!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that closers come complete with a little slotted plate to stop the chain pulling back in to the door. Maybe they are still in your "nick-nack" drawer!!

There's nothing but nick-nacks in my nick-nack drawer!!

Couldn't get anything through the chain, it was just too fine, but I managed to hold it in position with a carefully adjusted pair of mole grips. They even stayed in placed while I carried the door downstairs and outside to trim it down!!
