Datum line.
I'm reading conflicting details regarding what's the best point to start your Datum line when fitting a Kitchen;
Some say floor 'low point', others say floor 'high point'??............
I can under stand both views, but which is best with appliances & plinths being the major consideration??
Is it best to double check if an appliance is being fitted at a high point & what's the tolerance when it comes to floors that are hugely of the level??
I'd value anyones view.

Re: Datum line.
i always use the lowest point,
some kitchens ive fitted in the past have been supplied with a 6" plinth and the legs need to be 6" so if you start at a highpoint and the floor is 1" out by the time you get to the end there will be 7"legs so plinth will be 1" short, its easyer to start at at the low point and scribe the plinth.
that was just an example if the floor was 1" out id look at leveling the floor with a SLC

Re: Datum line.
+1 for Colour Rep's post I always start from where appliances are going, but it all depends how much the floor is out. I once had to install a kitchen in an extension where the builder put the concrete floor in 4" out of level, over 10ft. (and the washing machine was at the high end) Plinths had to be cut out of 300m wide MFC, and the units at the low end had to be supported on timber battens.

Re: Datum line.
Did they have one of those 1:20 triangular road signs at the kitchen door entrance?

Re: Datum line.
I think the appliance location is the one & then establish the floor high & low points.

Re: Datum line.
The kitchen fit I did where the floor was 4" in 10ft was down to the builder. Both me and the householder wanted the floor out and re-doing, but the builder was having none of it. The builder reckoned his labourer had transferred the floor level from the existing and got it "Slightly wrong." (his words). Just a good job he didn't work for NASA on the Mars mission, they'd have missed by millions of miles.

Re: Datum line.
Reminds me of an old fella I used to know whose sadly no longer about:
He was in Travis Perkins down at Maidstone and this posh suit next to him started bending his ear about how they had a paving contract with the council and the work had to be done to tolerances of a few mm to pass inspection.
Still with a rollup in his mouth Keith casually drawls, "Really? When we do paving it has to be right!"

I think I'll take two chickens...
