Got two in my current machine and two 1TB discs in a mirror for storage :)

SSDs are worth their weight in gold - price per GB is becoming pretty good too!!!

Yeah as soon as they start reaching about £120 for 1tb I'll be switching my storage drives over, that won't be for a while mind you.

About 5 yrs ago, a friend decided to build his own top spec machine. Had the latest CPU, Mobo, Graphics card etc. Even had a liquid cooled heatsink on top of the CPU. Cost him around £2000 to build. I spoke to him about 3 months after he'd built the "Beast" and he said, if he'd put off the build for that 3 months, he'd have saved around £600 on the cost of components alone.

It does move quick I must say. I could have spent upwards of 5-6k if I'd gone for the spec I wanted.
I'm debating going for a couple of servers to take some of the number crunching on later this year, but it really depends if I stick with it.

That's a pic of the inside of my old PC.

later upgraded it to XFIRE 5770's, worked like a charm for about 3 months till I upgraded again :D

was fully watercooled, both GPU's and CPU.

You can get passively cooled everything - but I guess you'd need to keep the computer in the fridge?

Passive cooling has come a long way, and with SSD technology you can go for a completely silent machine if you don't need a high spec.

Water cooled machines always scare me....I get worried they may spring a leak, but it's what you need if you want to O/C.

The Intel Z77 chipset is worth looking into, it basically uses the SSD as cache for the standard spinner drive.

On a side note, has anyone seen the mineral oil cooled machines that you can build. A colleague pointed them out to me a couple of months back now.

You don't need water cooling if you want to overclock, strictly speaking it's not much more efficient than decent air cooling a lot of the time.
Seriously overclocking needs peltiers/ two phase or all the obscure methods.
