bathroom tiling help needed

Post by sixtie »

got 2 projects on the go at the moment, this is the other one, and I've hit a snag

the entire bathroom suite is just about ready to tear out (no problem there), and I was going to be using the waterproof green/ blue plasterboard* to line all 4 of the walls with and hang all th e new tiles off of (standard ceramic bathroom tiles), the theory on this being the waterproofing 1, it will help protect the plaster which I dont need to remove and the wall beneath/ behind and 2 it will flatten the wall out significantly for tiling on top of

here's the snag though: the blue plasterboard is approx 15mm (I think?), what do I do on the door wall? do I lay it over as before same as all other walls (is this considered cheating?), or do I tear off the existing plaster on this wall first? as the snagging point is the door and architrave IYKWIM...simply laying the boarding on top will raise the wall surface to level with the architrave, and the tiles along that edge will all stand proud and look imo silly

I can't not waterproof this wall as it is going to be housing one half of the wall sections of the shower cubicle

* is this blue/ green plasterboard the correct thing to be to lining the bathroom walls with? the floor isnt being tiled

don't just use the waterproof board, make sure you tank it with a compound like the "Ardex Waterproof Coating" or any other roll-on/paint-on membrane. Alternatively, look at Schluters Kerdi-Mat for lining shower areas before tiling.

RE: Architrave, I'm honestly not sure how to tackle this, maybe one of the builder guys (cotswold maybe?) would have an idea

Cheers :thumbleft:
