is this tile trim badly installed...?

hi there

just had our bathroom finished, but we were not happy with the tile trim, we told the installers this but they insisted it was ok and that all tilers would leave it like that...

just wondered what other people think, any comments appreciated

I wouldn't put up with that, looks grim to me but not as bad as the stuff in this place, tiled by the previous owner! :(

Yes, I would say it is badly installed for a pro tiler. That metal trim is a pig to work with if you don't have the right tools and your walls aren't square, but I'm a DIY'er and I have just done my kitchen and my trim joints are quite a bit better than that - and it was my first tiling job. They should come back and at least redo that external corner.

The first one is comparable to the plastic trim in my bathroom done by a 'pro'. I was not too pleased, but I don't know what a good pro would do. However, I tiled my porch last weekend, and it is much neater than the bathroom floor (same size, same size tiles) done by the same pro who did the trim e.g. the edges of tiles at the edge of the floor are not aligned.

It is not installed incorrectly as such, it's just been done very poorly.

Any man and his dog can cut a trim to a 45 deg. angle using a cheap £2 mitreblock and a hacksaw, so there's really no excuse to have them butting up like that.

Also, in the top pic, the trim isn't even over the edge of the tile. Get the installer back round and get him to refit them at his expense as it's really unacceptable.

We actually have them back as it was supposed to be replaced but at the end the guy told us they won't fix it because they would have to take the tiles down.. and he told us that every tiler would do the trim the same way and every showroom has it done like this.. after some arguing he promised us compensation but we have never heard from him again..

You don't need to remove the tiles at all, you can get a stanley blade behind the trim and remove adhesive (assuming it's even stuck down!!) and from there take the trim out.

The trim will be unusable after this just so you're aware.

I don't think that's plastic trim DTW so doubt you will be able to remove it like that. It is still possible to remove but not without hassle so it is easier to take the top tiles off and replace.

Yeah most tilers install trim like that but they tend to do it with care! It's not the worse i've ever seen but it certainly isn't good!
