Replacement kitchen door help!

Post by Paulaviki »

Hi,

In my kitchen I have white hi gloss shaker style doors on my kitchen cabinets but I've had a DIY disaster while trying to repair scratches on 3 of them so now I'm trying to get replacement doors. I think the kitchen is a homebase one but they don't seem to sell replacement doors!

So anyway I've been looking online but its the measurements which are stumping me. I've measured the doors as H700mm and W495mm but only seem to find doors which are 500mm wide and 710 or 730mm high. Will I have to have the doors custom made?

Can anyone recommend where to get doors from? I rent the house (been here 5 years and don't ever see landlord!) so want to fix it but don't want to spend a fortune!

Help!!!

If they really are only 700 high then your kitchen is more likely to be an Ikea kitchen rather than homebase

Have you got a picture of inside a wall cabinet? namely a picture of the brackets at the top inside.

Measure the doors from the back and give the exact size are they 694h x 496w ?

I don't have any pictures, is there something particular to look for to find out if it is an ikea one? It does look like the 'adel' range.

I wish my nearest ikea wasn't so far away so I could pop and have a look!

ok if you open a base unit. Is the back of it hardboard?

Also what is the internal depth measurement. from the front edge off the carcase to the back panel?

Internal depth is 310mm and yes the back appears to be hardboard.

I'm thinking it is ikea too as the handles are on their website! Looks like a trip to ikea this weekend then! Thanks.

So these are wall units you've damaged?

Ihave a good idea they are Ikea but If you tell me what the internal measurements are of the base (floor) units then I could confirm for you ;)

Although you will find it difficult to find replacement doors online a lot of door manufacturers do actually produce non-standard sizes. The reason being is that most e-commerce is only really set up to handle standard items. You'll find that if you contact them a lot of suppliers are able to supply the sizes you want. As for price, well you usually pay for the next 'standard' size up, plus a small premium. So you're probably looking at the price for a 715 x 495 door plus 10%.

Although its a bit difficult to get the exact match for your size but not impossible, try the RTA store. I have bought my kitchen cabinets from them, you may browse for your size here, you will definitely get the desired one.

Custom made kitchen doors don't really cost much more than stock size ones, I would be suprised if it cost you more than £35. What colour are they? I think your biggest problem might be finding an exact colour match! We often take doors down to our local car body sprayers, and they will often be able to re spray a door in the right colour, could be an option.

Look UNDER the wall units.....head on the counter and look up - if it's Ikea, all the ones I've seen have the name stamped on the bottom! :salute:
