Sealant. Can I use it to make a thicker 2nd layer?

Post by JS2004 »

Hola - I have a question regarding DOW 785..

I have spent most of the day getting my bath secured, supported and plumbed etc. so it was ready for sealing.

I have jacked it up so that there isnt much of a gap between the bath and the tiles but there is still a gap behind the bath - I did attempt to run a bead of sealant before "squashing" the bath in place but then I jacked it up so it may have moved a bit but should still be there (I put a lot of sealant down the gap).

I have now bought and used DOW 785 for the seal between top of bath and tiles. A few areas had a bit of a space behind where the sealant was filling and being squashed into when I was running my finger along the bead.

I have re-filled ran my finger over some of the areas doing this several times and now I think its sufficiently sealed - however the overall seal has a bit of a recess between the bath and the tiles (I am thinking that water may pool there and ideally I want it to run off).

It has been setting now for the last 3 hours - am I safe to run another bead and smooth it out over the top of the current seal that I have recently placed?

I was advised to leave it 24 hrs by a family member before doing another bead and smoothing it out but reading some other posts state silicone on silicone isnt the best idea?

Cheers

Bath is filled, leaving it overnight before emptying it.

Just not sure if I can do another bead of silicone to make the seal between the bath and the tiles less prone to water pooling ?

all depends on the thickness off the bead i would say less than 5mm you should be ok but touching it should tell you the answer

no it wont be tacky but it dries from the surface in if it feels rubbery you'll be fine if its squidgy it may drop rip or push
how big was the bead or layer :dunno:
