piccies a deffinate, even if i cock it up

quick question,

how easy / do-able is it do two different coloured grouts on a wall, say grey or black for the lower half black tiles and white for the upper half (white tiles)?

is there any technique for doing this? or will it look shocking and i should stick to one colour?

don't, it'll look ghastly.

stick with white the whole way through :) It gives a great contrast to the black tiles and compliments the white tiles brilliantly.

Only time to use black grout really is black/charcoal floor tiles (or white octagon tiles, looks quite nice!)

Cheers :thumbleft:

I'm always up for something different!

Have you got any examples CR?

Only time I've seen it look half decent was black on white but that was in a feature area.

will happily shush my mouth if I like something, and I do like quite funky designs!!

Cheers :thumbleft:

thought they were when i saw them initially but didn't expect them to be that thick!
if it remove them all, does it look like the cill will be strong enough to tile onto?
the outer two are set a couple of inch into the wall unless they've been cut.. (here's hoping!)

They're just round edge quarries Matt, although they're bloody thick

They look like they've been on there for years, the substrate looks sound from pictures, if in doubt slap a bit of plaster on it and level it first?

Should look nice! Assuming the white tiles will be used for these?

was going to run the mosaic border a tile higher and have black as the cill,
think a white tile cill would look odd it being surrounded by black tiles

aye think a coat of plaster after i've removed them would be a sound idea :thumbright:

damn the blighters are set into the wall, looks like they actually laid the brick course over them :? :wtf:

rounded edge stands 8mm proud of the plaster finish so gotta get them cut back or suffer the plastic cill again... ::b

I brought a evolution mitre sawthat i've had my eye on waiting for it to come back on offer @ SF.
doing the noggings in double quick time with that, also got a diamond blade for it while its on offer.

i've got the 5 middle ones loose, i can probably cut the rounded edge off these with the mitre + diamond blade if i take it steady and clamp them down,
then it's just a job of hacking the two outer ones that are set in the wall,
dont think a hand tile cutter will touch them some how as a chisel + hammer wasn't having much affect

think i'll try the SDS + chisel on it tomorrow , i'll try and cut a break line in it first with a carbide blade, or if the SDS absolutely mashes them, i'll break them up flush with the plaster

Cheers Guys

SDS should mess them up quite well :D

Odd to see a sill being built around, guess it worked though!

good luck getting it off of the window sill

cheers :-) they did have old adhesive on the edges so thought number em up and put em back in same order,
sods law, to get em square in the mitre i ended up chipping it off so didn't really matter

they're laid in loose apart from the edge ones so will set those back in properly and level after i've cleaned the paint off them :thumbright:

edge tiles i took the oscilliating tool + carbide blade to cut a shallow score line in it and to give the chisel something to sit in,
took a while to chip away at them even with SDS, soon as they were through there was only plaster underneath to stop it... and it didn't stop it

hopefully plasterer will turn up tonight to fill chases and the mess under the other tiles from the sds :-)
should have the floor done this weekend, then i can get bath back in properly + line up the sink and fit temporarily.

small sheet to screw down, it got wet as i was cutting on the decking so let it dry overnight.
once thats done, off cut of ply under bath feet, redo batterns accounting for floor + tile height,
refit bath (she's been suggesting  ), remove paint off walls...
