What cement mix?

Post by Citizen2 »

Are there any pro tilers that can advise me on what cement mix for fireplace hearth tiles I should use. I mixed a 5:1 and wet the tiles before laying them down on the original cement base (where original tiles once were) Today I have lifted them up with finger pressure!! I have cleaned everything down and need some professional advise before starting again.

What adhesive?

The product has to be rated to withstand temperatures, as do the tiles.

Reason I've not answered this is that I am unsure what products to recommend.

Bal rapid set flexible is good for 150 deg+ so will be fine.
Use a flexible grout and personally i wouldn't go below 4mm with the spacers and make sure these are taken out before grouting

Ceramic tiles are fired at something like 1300 deg and porcelain more than that so i think the temperature of a fire should be fine.

Anything else?
