Keeping my floor tiles straight

Hi,

I'm about to tile my kitchen floor which is a reasonable size (about 30 sqm).

I'd like to know what is the best way to keep the floor straight as there is a long view in from the front door that if the tiles are not straight will look really obvious.

I did think that if I use the wall on that side of the room as a guide then they will look straight from the door but what about if looking from the other side of the kitchen how can I make sure that this will also be straight.

I hope that makes sense, any advice greatly appreciated.

What sort of shape is your kitchen? If it was me, I would find the centre of the room and work from there (so all the cuts are round the edge/under the units. I would avoid using a wall as an edge because you will be extremely lucky if it is exactly straight and parallel with the opposite wall

Best way to do it in my personal opinion, you can lay out tiles in a line as well to see how much wastage you will have by doing it this way as well.

lay a full row of tiles along the length and width of the room and gauge the lie of tiles by eye. i would have either the midle of a full tile or a grout line in the middle of the doorway if the cuts to the walls and round obstacles etc will allow you to do this without having thin cuts anywhere. If you want to make 100% sure of the layout lay all of the full tiles dry and then you can see exactly where the cuts will be, make sure you use the spacers you will be using between the tiles as this 3mm gap can add up to a big difference

Thanks for the reply's. The room is L shaped so you will see a long run of tiles at 90degrees to each other which is why I don't want this to be an issue.

Make the main body of the "L" an equal amount of distance from the walls at each side and work out from there, probably the best way to do it.
