replacing kitchen worktop

Hi guys,
what's involved in actually changing a worktop?

our existing one has got a huge square cut out where an electric hob used to be, (removed before we bought the place)
we've been getting by as the washing machine sits underneath the hole but I need to replace the worktop,
by the looks of it, its the dark black "slate" effect from the big diy shed, glossy finish.
Any cheaper places to source this?

our kitchen is u shaped with the long wall being the base of the u, like |____|
overall its a tad over 3.5m long and two short bits about 2m long and the worktops are laid out as above

i've not got a router or a jig or experience with either, is it worth doing it this way instead of the existing metal preformed joins?
or if there are any fitters near sutton-in-ashfield, i'll gladly accept a quote.

i loved replacing my worktops luckily i have no cut outs though.. so i am useless to you!! :D

With the layout you have the corners will need a Masons mitre unless you go for a square edge top which are easier to join. A chippy will usually charge between £100 to £150 to do it and unless you have the router and jig then it is worth paying to have it done for you.

Think about removal of the old tops, are the tiles sitting on the surface on the wall join? Is it all square?

think it's square enough as the worktops don't look a silly angle to the walls,
just normal scribing in?

painted walls with DIY shed upstands (?? like worktop skirting) on it.

got a new sink to cut in, got a jigsaw and some laminate blades.
I hear a relative might have a router and jig, weither he's got all the bits is a diff matter,

think looking for a chippy might be the best idea (or is it dusty now days )
