Hopefully a freebie for you Kindle people. Because I pre-ordered Black Ops 2 from Amazon they sent me a link to get this Kindle book for free. I'm not sure if the link will work for all of you but if it does then its a free read. Its useless to me because I don't know anyone with a Kindle

Re: Kindle fire hd
We bought ours to watch films on a plane journey to and from Egypt because there was no in flight entertainment (Thomson's I think).I have my music on there as well as books I have also found a stand alone GPS Uk road map.someone-else wrote:Not long got back from Tesco, they now have a variety of tablets, (no, NOT aspirin, paracetamol etc) most were in the demo mode, so not much can be done, but it makes me think, what can you actually do with one? It seemed to like ot mention you can watch films etc, but I have a TV for that, so what else can you really do? (Not counting read email and browse web)
Or let me put it like this.
If you own a computer tablet (not ipad) what do you actually do with it?

Re: Kindle fire hd
I have a gazzilion magazines (electronics, astronomy, motoring, computing, DIY etc) that are archived on my PC but I'm always - and I mean ALWAYS - reading them. With a tablet PC I could do this anytime, anywhere and that's my main reason for wanting one. Secondary to that would be interweb browsing then TV/movies.
Just checked - 105Gb worth of magazines and 'counting'...... so far

Re: Kindle fire hd
Still looking for a tablet alternative to the Kindle Fire or Google Nexus?
Very recently released is the Kobo Arc. Kobo make some pretty nice ereaders (the Kobo Glo is one of the best alternatives to the Kindle Paperwhite) but Kobo's last tablet, the Vox, was pretty crap. However the Arc is getting a lot of positive attention and actually looks like a good alternative to the Nexus.
Arc is a tablet that is designed to be a good ereader first and foremost, using a near vanilla version of Android and certified for the Google Play store. Kobo seem to have a friendly attitude to customers in terms of you own you content, it's easily transferable and access isn't locked when you go out of region. It also supports the epub format (something which Amazon have resisted, making it harder to get certain content onto the Kindle.) On the negatives: Kobo's store and presentation isn't as slick as Amazon, and from some of the comments I've read on other forums, Kobo's software/firmware can sometimes be buggy and they are slow to fix it - although these issues I've read about apply to the Glo, Touch and Mini, so maybe the Arc won't have such issues as it's Android.
