video / dvd Just wondering
Post by Someone-Else »
Just come back from shopping at (Tesco) they have on display lots of "christmas" DVDs
Just wondering, would you buy one?
I wont, because after its been watched it a couple of times, I find it not interesting. Like the obligatory James Bond film or Wizard of Oz

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

If you had kids that could watch Shrek four times a day everyday you'd get it

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work

I have "the snowman" on DVD though as yet haven't watched it though keep meaning to.
Might watch the new version on 4OD (don't watch broadcast telly, never anything I want to watch and the rare thing I might consider is never on when I'm in or I'm busy doing 2 things at once)

We now have several copies of the same DVD as they keep getting scratched etc. so Angie goes on ebay and buys another one
I did suggest that when we buy a new DVD that we make a copy on the computer and then use that, then when it gets scratched and is unusable we can burn another one, that way we do not have to keep buying the same DVD over and over again.

I think there's something comforting about watching a film over and over - you know what's coming, when to laugh, cry, whatever - feels safe and familiar...

I've never watched a DVD.
If I want a story I read a book, usually only once, but I used to re-read some when I was younger.
I just can't get excited about seeing something on a screen, it probably stems from not having a TV as a kid.

Re: video / dvd Just wondering
The only DVD's I buy are generally cult classics...Star Wars, Pulp fiction, Matrix etc. I just like having them in the house
Most of the films aren't worth buying and a special mention about that last James Bond film. It was the biggest pile of turd I have ever seen!! By Far!! It's become the biggest box office hit in the UK ever
The story line was sooo weak, I've had farts with more depth and every actor was terrible (sorry miss. Dench but that includes you).
Don't blame you Ayjay. There are a few films that can really grab though. Can't think of any right now but they're out there

I think they sell because they're a relatively cheap 'stocking filler', easy to wrap and get watched once then end up at a boot sale. Have to agree about the latest JB film - utter pony.
I know someone who has the complete set of JB films and they're lined up like toy soldiers gathering dust next to the TV....never watched more than once. They've been there so long they've become an ornament.
Top Gear never fails to come up with a DVD at Christmas...........more fags for Clarkson I suppose.

I don't get any discount or receive a bonus by saying so but we have LoveFilm accessible via the Xbox360 (you can use other devices and/or PCs too) where you can watch all those classics as many times as you want - all for £5/month. It's so good we ditched our SkyTV package entirely!
Don't take it personally......

And for the even younger youngsters, a cassette tape is a small plastic box containing a few kms of tape that often became mangled and twisted until the point where you couldn't hear your tunes. It was invented at the same time as the Biro ballpoint pen because without one it was impossible to rewind the tape by handbig-all wrote:
