Help with Bal range please.

Post by OchAye »

Hi,

I got the following:

a. Shower enclosure is going in newly plastered & skimmed corner. (Not plasterboard, brick wall).
b. half a wall is newly plaster like above but will not be a wet a area.
c. other walls are painted (emulsion, skimmed with toupret blue cachet, sealed, painted with crown clean extreme scrubbable matt).

On
(a) I intend to use BAL waterproofing kit.
Does area (b) or (c) need priming?
What BAL adhesive is meant to be used for the wet area and ideally the same for the rest.

The tiles are ceramic 200x500mm, and weight 17Kgs per square meter.

Cheers
OchAye.

PS. I gather it must be a cement based adhesive (powder) as the ready mixed ones won't dry.

A....yes waterproof ...me I prefer a membrane...instead off the paint on version....you don't need to wait the 24hrs and mess about with all your internal corners ect....membrane hand like wallpaper and just overlap corners,...then tile straight away...

B...yes prime ...apd or sbr...this is so you don't get a reaction(failure)..with the cement based adhesive and the plaster(gypsum)....

C...yes prime....is the emulsion tight to wall...ie...tape test...?

Use a single part adhesive....bagged...webber/mapei/ardex/bal ect. And flexiable grout from same mfr...

Plaster will take 32kg per m2 including addy and grout....so check weight on the side off the box off tiles...

Ps

Next time ask before plastering brick/block ...solid walls for tile fixing...

I would ave told you to use a QSR ...(quick set render)...sets faster and takes more weight per m2..
