Hi,
I have removed the tiles from a shower cubicle in the house that was previously tiled onto to plastered plaster board. The plaster skim is only about 1-2mm thick. I have taken off all the old adhesive (using a chisle, very tedious work). In some places the plaster has came off the wall and as a result I no longer have a smooty surface. There are some depper areas where the board has been damaged. I was planning on jsut filling in the deeper areas and just tiling over that? Would that be ok? Would the new tiling adhesive help to flatten out the wall, or is it going to be a nightmareto get the tiles level?
Thanks
Ross

It would be best to pull the plasterboard off and replace it with Aquapanel cement type boarding. You may not want to hear this after spending so much time prepping the existing surface but it is the best way to go.

Depends how bad the damage is. Might help to put some full height pictures up, so that we can see and also give details of the tile sizes.
We do a lot of bathrooms per year and 99 times out of 100 we would replace the plasterboard. With new plasterboard.

I was thinking of replacing the plasterboard, but not sure how it will look? I assume I will cut the board out at the joists? So I can placenew board in place? As I am only tiling a shower cubile, 900x900, there will be some of the new board that wont be tiled? How do I make this look lflush wit the old existing board that I havent replaced? I will post a picture up late on for you to look at.

Just got a quote for the 2 sheets of plaster board that I need and it came in at a whopping £12 lol any advice on how to best do this would be appreciated. I'm assuming a use the dry lining sde and fill the gap then sand it flat and paint? Do I need to seal the plasterboard with PVA or anything to make it waterproof before tiling?

You cut the board at an appropriate point in relation to the job and if needs be insert an extra stud. Although if one of the walls is brick or block behind the plasterboard you will have to stick a new board on with bonding compound. it might be necessary depending on formation of the stud work to add extra studs at the internal corner.
next problem is the shower tray, is this staying in or coming out to allow for the boarding. If coming out, no problem board from floor to ceiling. If it is staying in then you can only take the board out above the tray level and then put noggins along to join the bottom of the new board to.
To finish the board joint where it is meeting with the existing board you will need to tape and joint it.
