You can go over old tiles (pi55 poor practice). Depends what background is behind the tiles and what tiles you want to add on top of them. You only have so much weight you can place on the tiling background.

You can buy adhesive for tiling over tile. Ask in your local tile shop.

Walls need to be thoroughly cleaned before tiling commences.

Just rip the whole lot off and re do it. A lot better than having a whole wall of tiles falling on someone because you exceeded the weight limit for the substrate

I would rip the lot off an start again

Iv seen tile on tile fall off so many times, But that's probably down to poor workmanship

I replaced tiles on a bathroom wall at work where it was tile on tile on wallpaper ok the tiles lasted 10 years

I am mid way through re-doing my bathroom and had the same question. I called the BAL helpline and they said it was OK with certain adhesives (I cant remember which as I didn't end up doing it). They advised giving the tiles a thorough clean to make sure there was no soap etc left and to give the old tiles a good key - the guy on the phone suggested scoring the tiles with an angle grinder.

Good luck
