Tiling a floor....

Is it necessary to use the bigger teeth on the trowel for laying ceramic tiles in a bathroom? I have 10mm thick ceramic tiles to lay next weekend in the en suite. My only other tiling experience is tiling a hallway with 60x60 porcelain. I used the large teeth here, but the tiles were heavy and going to get a lot of traffic. Would it be ok to use the wall tile small teeth to lay ceramic in a bathroom? On thinking of doing to to save on adhesive and the floor height as I've lined it with ply and don't want a step from the bedroom? Would I even save much adhesive and height doing this? What is usually done here?

You want a 10mm trowel for those tiles. Could probably get away with 8mm if the floor is very flat

Happy days, cheers. I have another question. I dry fitted a dry in a few positions on the stud wall to night and noticed a slight cup at the bottom. When I set a tile on this section I can rock like a see saw. It seem the studwork is a few mm out and the plasterboard its slighty out of shape. The gap is maybe 5mm, but only in a small section of the wall. Do I just build this section out with adhesive, like back butter that part of the tile?

The floor tiles you need to acheive 100% coverage of adhesive to the back of the tile. Normally 10mm notched trowel is minimum used because you need an adhesive bed of between 3 and 6mm thick. If you use an 8mm notch then buy one that has deeper notches than they are wide.

Wall tiles are 600x300 ceramic at a thickness of about 8mm. I didn't realise there were so many different size notches. I bought a trowel thinking one size was floor and one side for wall lol My trowel is 5mm and 20mm. Think I need to get some new gear for this DIY project!

You need 8mm notch for the wall tiles and they need to be on a cement based adhesive and back buttered. The deviation on the wall can be taken up in the adhesive bed.

Can I get an 8mm and 10mm trowel in one? Are there better brands than others? Where should I get one?
