The NOISEeeeee, the noiseeeeeeee

Post by BillyGoat »

Can't take it anymore!!!

When I've finished work tonight, I'm changing my power supply - the high pitched whine is killing me, headaches all day long!!!

I've been putting it off for ages, as the replacement PSU is WAYYYYY too big for the (big) desktop case I've already got.....means I'm going to have to rebuild the whole thing in a new (even bigger) case :cb

I may never be back, if I lose my rag it'll be out the door!!!!

Well....must say I'm somewhat gutted to have gone to the effort of MAKING the power supply work in my old case, only to find out it wasn't the culprit.

Never realised there was already a 750W PSU in there already - Christ, it weighs a ton!!!!!

Still.....I'm sure the 1350W will last a bit longer, bit more room to grow!

Right.....video card next then!! ::b

(if it's the board, I'll live with it).

Only other things left are 1 mechanical HDD, 2 SSD's, 1 optical, 3 fans and a video card, card reader and a few LEDs. Can disconnect some, but ARghh....the noise!!

Best trying to Identify it while running with side off,
1350 is a beast!

Try pressing finger against hdd side while running,
Temp slow/stop fans with finger.

Worst comes to worst, sound deadening foam or a soundproof case like antec p180 and the like?

Going to give it all a go later. I can hopefully just unplug everything and give it a go - should be easy, as it's a part modular psu - just pull plugs out until it stops!

Case IS sound deadened, which is the worst bit.....it weighs a silly amount now. Wish I could have used the one pictured above, but it's just too stupidly big, which is gutting.

Going off ebay as I've sold four things now that I KNEW worked, but had two back broken (checked SN's , etc - same thing). So some cack handed idiot has broken them. Would sell it, but there is no way it can be sent :cb

It might not be the computer.Try putting a cork up your bum before listening to the noise again

What is that beast of a case?
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work

It's possible it's me.....will get the missis to put her head next to it and listen

Case is by Thermaltake, it's Level 10. It's made with BMW designers, apparently.

Freaking huge and apparently lights up like a Christmas tree when it's all plugged in.

the whole thing is modular, with a back panel that clips off to hide all the cables and make it look purty.

I asked my missis to enter the office of doom and listen to the noise, see if she could see where it's coming from. She said "WHAT NOISE?!" :?

I thought about my hearing and I do hear a bit of a whine, but it's not the same. This one is when I'm in this room only. I can sit in a quiet room and only hear the echo of where my thoughts should be.

On the bright side, this new power supply doesn't hoof out 10 kajillion watts of heat!!!!

Wes, wish I could go out on the R1 now.....it's been way too long. Time to get it sorted for when that ball of yellow finally makes an appearance!!!!

Nice!! PIC!!!

I had an R1 and R6 at the same time....plan was to get a fleet of 5, the other three being a cruiser, crosser and a lovely Millie mmmmmm. After I got the two, I changed jobs and hardly had time to use the things, so sold the R6.

Was a funny little thing......went blasting down a road and saw a bright white light in my face - didn't know it had a shift light

Young lad brought it from me and was practically licking it while I stood there. Grey/black 2003. Had a few scuffs from previous guy, but I'd fully serviced it, fixed it up and had a 357T alarm installed with certs. Went like a rocket.

I said when you get to the bottom, don't gun it, there is lots of gravel there!

I watched him gingerly go down the road with his mates following.....went to show off and nearly ended up on the roundabout! :tool:

Always wonder if he made it home.

BG
