Why is it tyre garages who mainly deal with the general public (who cannot claim the vat back) ALWAYS quote a price ex VAT??
Got burned today, got my dad to phone about a price for a Tyre, was quoted £58 inc fitting and balancing, wasn;t till I got there they mentioned "plus the VAT"...still the cheapest in town, but wasn't overly impressed at being taken for another 20%......
Bloody underhanded is what it is.....

Re: Plus VAT
Simple answer Scot, ask if it includes V.A.T. when you phone...oh and ask if it's a "Fully fitted price"..including balancing..valve and ...here's the one I got caught on "Environmental disposal of old tyres"

Re: Plus VAT
the price was fully fitted albeit ex VAT....
Part of the issue is many of them deal with farmers etc so have the habit of tacking on the VAT, even sh*t-fit do it.....

Re: Plus VAT
Businesses must clearly state if their prices are ex VAT as the Tax Inclusivity Rules apply:
The Prices and Charges (Tax - Inclusive Statements) Order, 1973 requires that all retail prices marked on goods or prices displayed or quoted at the retail level and all charges for services displayed or quoted should be tax-inclusive (e.g. VAT) except where it is intended solely for a business customer.
However where a retail customer is dealing with a supplier whose normal business is supplying other businesses, then the price quoted will be excluding VAT as it may be assumed that you have approached this business in a trade or professional manner.
If you pay by credit card and find the total includes VAT when you weren't advised the CC company will refund you the VAT part....
