A woman I know has had her gutters ripped down by the thawing snow which have broken the plastic insert the LNB(?) sits on that slides into the arm of her satellite dish. I popped down earlier to give her a price for the gutters (going through the insurance) then she asked me about her dish, the conversation went like this-

Her - "Can you fix the satellite dish too?"
Me - "I dont know if I could source the broken part and even if I could the gutter may have knocked the alignment of the dish out so you would have to pay someone to re-align it. Have you tried Sky?"
Her - "Robbing barstewards want £65"
Me - "Thats reasonable. If I did it the part may cost £20, then there will be £30 for a crate of beer and takeaway for me, then £40 or so for someone to re-align it so thats around £100 - get Sky to do it"
Her - "Sky won't come out until Saturday at the earliest and my daughter is going nuts about missing TOWIE"
Me - "Tell her to watch it on the laptop"
Her - "But the satellite doesn't work"

If it's mostly in alignment, you can get away with one of the sat beeper boxes. It tells your strength and allows you to fine tune it with an attenuation knob - cost about a 10'er. I installed mine a week or two back, got 100% on feed 1 and 99% on 2 with that.

The part is the tricky bit, depending on the model of dish she has. Could be zone 1 or zone 2 and then there are different models, with different LNBs that vary in attachment. Could be cheaper to buy a new pack if DIYing it. Satcure would be my resource and place of purchase.

65 clams is a bargain if sky do it, to be fair. If she wasn't a sub, it would be closer to 120 and would be worth you doing.

She has gone through Sky to get it fixed. It was one of those 'favour' jobs I dont fancy doing because I will be getting calls left right and centre when her signal dies. She has actually put a claim in to her insurance but she has £50 excess and the insurance is sending an assessor round all for a £15 payout!

VERY simple device, not like what the installers will use. It gives you signal strength, it doesn't tell you WHICH satellite you are aiming at! It's great if you are just 'tweaking' a dish to get signals back

If you want, I can give you a run down of new install vs setting an old one back up??? Won't bore you otherwise.....
