As title i plan to use left over slate tiles from my kitchen floor around my log burner , it is a 5 kw fire and gets very hot .
The surrounding area was plaster boarded with thick fire proof board , then plasterd .
The plaster has been there now a full year and not failed due to heat , so i want use the tiles as a surround but remember as a kid putting slates in a barrel fire and them expoding.
Thanks in advance
Ric

My parents had their wood-burner sat on Cumbrian slate for over 30yrs with no problems.

Yes this will be fine....just go for it.....(disclaimer......I'm not a professional who is qualified to advise.....seek professional advice ....)
Reason.....the log burner warms up slowly, allowing the slate to expand slowly .....therefore will be ok...have a log burner myself....so have some understanding....!
