GU10 energy saving CFL lamps

Post by ultimatehandyman »

Last July I installed a light fitting which was purchased from B&Q and included three GU10 energy saving CFL lamps, these lamps are supposed to be rated at 10,000 hours which must be the biggest con in history ::b

Just 10 months after the tenant moving in two of the lamps have failed, in fact they failed a few months back as the last time I went to look at the faulty smoke alarms, she mentioned that two of the lamps had gone but I forgot to take a look at them for her.

Even if the light had been left switched on continuously for the 10 month period the lamps would not have been on for 10,000 hours ::b

Why do the people selling these items claim such nonsense ::b

My parents brought one of those style lights from B&Q (energy saving light, three spot thing on a bar) - you need to make sure your tenants ONLY put energy saving or LED bulbs into it and not cheap GU10 halogens!!

The wires inside were as thick as a gnats cock - that's why they are covered in stickers telling you not to use halogens.

Bet that saved them a few quid..... ::b

We have them at work. F,, ing useless they are. Some have lasted well over two years, but many are lucky if they last a few months. Nurses are always complaining about the poor light at switch on (like they can't wait a few minutes for it to brighten)
