would you rather waste 40 quid and have a solid floor or save 40 quid and have cracked tiles that will need ripped out meaning you would have to buy new tiles, adhesive, grout, sealer, more labour to lay them again AND more ply?? I know which option i would go for.
I would be charging 2 days labour (£450) to remove ply, re-lay with 12mm ply then overboard that with 6mm backer boards, tile, upstands, grout, seal, silicone

i wasn't proposing to stick with just the 9mm ply - instead i was wondering if i could stick more ply or 6mm or 9mm backerboards on top. That would give me 15mm rather than starting again completely.
