Journal - diary - whatever...........

I'm looking for a programme (free of course) which is like a diary or a journal - I want specific features, well just one really, I'd like to be able to write brief comments straight into whatever box/field denotes each day - I already have Mozilla Sunbird and it just doesn't do what I want, too much faffing about with *events* etc.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've looked for one before on more than one occasion and always given up.

Being a complete "Luddite" I find the old pen and paper version best.........

There is a journal thing there, never used it before.... click start > type Journal

It's great with a pen/tablet input as it converts to handwriting - you can also use text input with the =keyboard, look at the bottom of that link.

If you want simple and free, then I've also found this one that looks very functional.

Pens and paper get lost - my PC is always here.

Idailydiary is not really what I'm looking for - I'm fussy, I want what I want. (and I'm reasonably proficient with google thanks Razor).

Still on XP3 Billy, I'd probably still be on Win 3.1 if it were possible.

The RedNotebook is not really right either.

My ideal programme would be the same as Sunbird where you can choose to view a single day or a week or a month, but with the ability to make a direct entry to the day's field.

Looks like rednotebook does what you said?

I looked at the screenshots originally and it looked wrong, I just installed it and can't see any way to arrange it how I want it.

Pic below of Sunbird (Mozilla diary). If I could insert text direct into each of those days it would be ideal - but I can't - I have to enter an event (and the date and time) and then when it's entered it only shows that there is an event, not what it is.

Anyway I still think there is lots of old software out there that simply 'does the job', doesn't need a 3GHz processor, or 4Gb RAM or 16Gb HD space....... this constant requirement for 'improvement' doesn't always work out for the best.

I have around 300 old magazine cover CDROM from 'way back when' that have software that is still useful! Fun to peruse them now and again.

There is KE, but there is also lots of shite out there running on dog slow computers. I said to XP earlier - it's over 10 years old. It's only on borrowed time for updates now too, then you are exposed to any future threats found in the OS without other equally crappy software running all the time keeping 'guard'.

I find most of the time, it's the same folk who love older things tend to be running the most 'optimisers' and 'registry fixes' and other nonesense to keep their machine "usable" (not that I'm saying you gents are, but in 'general' which is why I don't frequent any kind of computer forums outside the occasional post here).

Sometimes it's best to just upgrade and spend the time doing rather than waiting and fixing things.

My main two laptops are both i7's with 16GB ram (one has SSD), my two desktops are both also i7's with 16 and 32GB ram. My old desktop, which is sat under the desk while I work out what to do with it is a Q6600 quad core with 16GB - it was retired as it was just too slow for what I was doing.

I've had my fill of XP - I'm *SO* pleased it was retired earlier this year, now the only time I have to see it, is stacked up ready to be sent off for recycling
