We have a Liff 2000 water softener (approximately 6 years old) and we have found the brine cabinet now fills with water. I have previously emptied the water out, but it has subsequently re-filled during the next regeneration. We have also found that there is now a large amount of water being discharged during regeneration - it's a steady flow but it soon amounts up.
Having done a manual regeneration i found that the water flows out of the overflow during the first two phases of the regeneration cycle (the first phase lasts around 10 minutes, the second phase lasts around 15 minutes), but nothing goes out of the drain. However, as soon as the third phase starts (runs for an hour) the flow from the overflow stops and all water goes out via the drain.
I don't understand why the water should flow from the overflow during certain phases, but not others and vice versa with the flow from the drain. Is this normal or can anyone offer any explanation for this please? Is there another reason why the brine cabinet is filling with water?
Thanks.

Normally a mains pressure problem, a call to the manu may be the best plan.

Be good to know what the actual problem was after they have serviced it.
