Stomach in knots..
I did some skirting board for my mate last week but ultimately ran out of time before we could finish the 3rd room.
"Am I okay to leave my tools here and I'll come back next week and finish?"
No worries, he said.
Just text me, "I've done these skirting boards meself"
If he had text me before I would have said don't you f*cking bother, no one touches my saw bar me.
Hence I'm tense.
Probably overreacting, but I'm just interested to see if everyone is as protective over their tools or if it's just me.

Re: Stomach in knots..
something similar
dewalt 18v jigsaw drill angle drill 4 batts charger and a router £800 worth
asked if i could leave them there for the weekend and finish the bedroom
left them neatly in the empty cupboard i hadnt yet fitted the doors to
monday arrives no tools
she had put them in the garden shed because she preferred the cupboard empty
asked for the shed key and she said you dont need one just move the brick
the colour also drained out off her face when i pointed out she would be the best part off £1000 out off pocket if they had gone missing rather than the £100 she thought the tools would cost at argos

Re: Stomach in knots..
That's the problem - Each of my tools I have selected, maybe even bought at a good price at the time, I know the tool and it's limitations/capabilities. Someone that doesn't have as much an idea will not know this - and it goes without saying they wouldn't treat the tool the same as they would if it is their own.
I'm gonna learn a lesson from this - I'll not be leaving my tools anywhere from now on.

i keep my tools clean neat and tidy
i am not anal but like things to look no worse than when they went out

Re: Stomach in knots..
My tools go home with me every night, always have done and always will no matter how much hassle it is.
I know what sound most of them make if someone picks one up and puts it down again in another room.
I rarely lend them to anyone - certainly not to someone I barely know.
I'm constantly amazed by the attitude of all the youngsters I come across on sites these days, they leave and lose tools all over the place - doesn't matter whether they are their own or someone elses.
My tools were built up gradually - you saved up and bought one every few weeks - it was the only way - they're precious, they're mine - feck off, you can't borrow them.
I don't care if it's anal - they pay my rent (figuratively speaking).

One day it will all be firewood.

Re: Stomach in knots..
I try not to lend out my tools to anyone that I think can’t use them correctly or will not look after them.
Often I see people using cordless drills to drill metal, when the drill bit bites and the chuck spins on the bit because they have not tightened it correctly. Instead of stopping and tightening the chuck they release the trigger, then continue without tightening the chuck.
TIGHTEN THE F*CKING CHUCK YOU LIMP WRISTED NUMPTY
Once the chuck has done a few hundred revolutions on a loose drill bit it knackers the chuck so that it will never tighten properly again, as well as marking the drill bit
It also winds me up when people are driving screws and the bit keeps camming out.
GET THE CORRECT SIZE DRILL BIT OR APPLY MORE FORCE TO THE DRILL

Re: Stomach in knots..
Never EVER leave tools on a site, I'm always shocked when I go to do a job and there is x hundred or x thousand pounds of kit left lying around, especially when its in clear view of any window and the owner doesn't always lock up when they go out.
The only person I lend tools to, is my old man as he respects tools, worked to get them so respects them. Other people...no chance, if I had to, it would be the crap tools they would get, and definetely not my wera drivers.
