Tablet for 8y/o
Looking to get a tablet for our Daughters birthday in September.
Just started looking, and I'm lost already!
Budget is about £150
99.9% sure Android is the way forward....
Any recommendations?
Looking at Archos Titanium 80, Acer Iconia A1, or Google Nexus 7....
All got good and bad points....

I'm sure someone on here linked to a tablet that was only £90 Half decent looking too, got to be good enough for a young kid

hitch my girlfriends little boy wanted one after i took mine round one day we got him one like this for Christmas http://www.hughesdirect.co.uk/computing ... -2/product and it has stood the test of time well has taken the abuse that a 7 year old can throw at it is ok for games and good on the net. we didn't want go pay to much or go to big as we didn't know how it would stand up and if he would use it enough we are now thinking that next year we may get him a bigger more powerful one he can do his homework on

Re: Tablet for 8y/o
Any idea of screen size you want?
I've got a Nexus 7 - the 16GB models can be got cheap as chips at the minute. around 120ish. Everyone is clearing through the stock as the new model is imminent.
Nice thing about the Nexus models, unlike the cheaper one linked above (not that I'm knocking their choice) is the software support - the Nexus range are supported for MUCH longer and always get the latest updates first. You end up getting more bang for the buck without needing to replace hardware earlier or resorting to rooting the tablet and installing custom roms (if you can get them for an unknown, low volume tablet).
Downsides of Nexus is no memory card support.
I suppose the question is, what do you want to do with it? Music, games, web, video?

Re: Tablet for 8y/o
Much apprecited BG...
Screen size, i was thinking about 8-10
Although the Nexus is slightly smaller, i put that into the mix as it seemed the better quality one....the nexus 10
Uses, web browsing, ebooks, games... the odd youtube type video, and very little music....
Shes allowed to use our laptops, so has access to bigger screened stuff for homework etc.

Nook HD + - 9" for 150 quid. Plus you can use SD card. Aldo, look at a credit account and pay it straight off - believe you can get another 40 quid off!!
They are dropping out the tablet market to concentrate on other stuff, but they opened it up to the Google play store before they done so.

Not just from there, but cheapest. Act quick - going fast, see reviews - very nice for cash!

Re: Tablet for 8y/o
Once shes got one, I'm sure she can download Hide and seek, and Leapfrog....
She can have a glass of ginger beer while shes playing it perhaps
The thing with the Nook, is it compatible with kindle books? I guess so if its done by the kindle android app....
I'm swinging toward the Nexus at the moment....
