Can I grab aSatellite view in Google Maps

Post by Mooncat »

I've tried
alt + Prt Scr, but it only copies the road map, not the image of what is there. MC Jnr suggests it might be an app, not a webpage. I could take a shot of the screen with a digicam.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Firefox, newest version. I'll try again, might have been a glitch then.

Are you using Windows? If so, if it is Vista, 7 or 8 try this:

Click Start > Type SNIP

It will open the screen snipping app. Open the page up to where you want to take a grab of something and click the NEW button, shown below:

Screen will go grey and the mouse arrow will become a crosshair. Drag over what you want to 'snip'. Let go of the mouse and it'll open into the full grabbed screen. Click File > Save As and save as normal.

Jobs a good 'un.

Print screen is ok, but this is better

I'm running XP and I use a tool called sRip32 from Progency software for screen captures.

http://www.freewebs.com/progency/download.html

It's freeware and it works great.

If you are using Linux Mint there is 'screen shot' in accessories, works much the same as the Snipping Tool. Don't know if this program works with W or Mac.

I haven't specifically tried the satellite view on google maps but to copy what's on the screen I only use Prt Scrn without Alt and that's always worked for me.
One day it will all be firewood.

That works, but you don't always want the whole screen/toolbars/applications/etc in your grab. Then you've got to open up paint or something, mess around cropping it.

If you use one of the other apps, you can just grab the portion you want (smaller file size too).

Print screen grabs the whole screen, alt print screen grabs the active application window. If you are using a laptop, you may also need the FN key, if your print screen is a function key, like mine :thumbright:

Not necessary. Hit F11 first. THEN PrintScreen. Then F11 again to show the toolbars, etc.

If you like that, you'll love 'Steps Recorder'.

If you ever have trouble with family who can't do something, you can make the QUICKEST instructions, EVER with screenshots and instructions - spits it out in htm format too!
