Thanks everyone.

We can't remember the make of the floor tiles. We may have a box somewhere so I'll have a look out the back to see if I can find it.

Today we got the whole corner area fixed, wired and plumbed. The cooker is also plumbed in for the gas hob, just needs me to wire it and fit the chains and its complete.

The Mrs got a bit excited laid some splash back tiles out.

We're still debating what to do on the windowsill. Oak, splash back tiles left to right, same tiles side by side or even the smaller of the floor tiles.

Any thoughts?

Very nice PJ, but I reckon them g clamps will get in the way when the wife's doing some cooking or washing pots in the sink. Better to screw the worktops from underneath.
Seriously, it's looking great. I bet your feeling well pleased.

PS, I hope you oiled the underneath of the worktops before installing them.

Haha. Thanks John. I did have a tea towel hanging on one earlier. We thought they made a nice feature.

The worktop has been joined and routed all round. It just needs a good sanding over the join. I want it leaving loose until we've had the washing machine and dishwasher running a couple of times to check the plumbing.

I hadn't planned on oiling the underneath but still can if it needs it. We did oil around the tap whole before we fitted that. I was going for 5 - 6 coats to ensure it soaks right through. Is oiling the underneath just for preservation as it won't be seen?

PJ , do a bit of research on the internet, and you'll find that you have to oil both top and bottom of the worktop, otherwise you'll have problems down the line. The worktop could potentially bow, unless it's oiled underneath. Don't forget you should protect the underneath of the worktop above the dishwasher, with a foil deflector (usually comes with the dishwasher) , to help prevent the ingress of moisture/condensation from the dishwasher.

That all makes sense. I'll get it done before we fix it down. I'm glad I put isolators and flexible hoses on the taps now.

And just found a box amongst the rubbish outside.

This is the "island" all levelled an fix together. Not yet fixed to the wall. It will have the same worktop as the main run with a pop-up socket in the middle just in front of the nib.

The curved corners will have doors and the oak unit in the middle will have baskets.

Most of the big work is done now. Just 2 wall cupboards left to mount. Worktops are looking nice after a couple of coats of oil.

We'll be removing the corner worktop and oiling underneath as advised. At the same time we can bed the sink down into the unit below and silicon between the sink and worktop. Really happy with how it turning out. We've have a good few evenings at it now and it's starting to pay off.

Looking good PJ. I bet those cuts on the curved unit (to the wall) took some working out.

If you look closely at the curved pic photograph you may see a small pile if plywood off cuts. The father-in-law made a template. It's was slotted around the nib and the angled wall and left oversized on the other 3 sides and clamped down onto the units. Then he cut a block the same depth as the over-hang and used that to draw the edges underneath. That way he could join the 2 pieces of worktop before cutting it as one large piece.

The end result is amazing!

Looking good How did the problem with the wastes to the integrated dishwasher and washing machine work out in the end?

Thanks DWD. I dropped the waste as low as it would go and then moved the hose connections into the cupboards beside each appliance. The wastes are behind the cupboards on the other side.
